After wrapping up its latest volume in February, RWBY continues to leave fans asking for more. Though the show's setting, main characters, and conflicts will pull fans in, the series would be nothing without Ruby Rose. Ruby's grown a lot since her start at Beacon Academy and has pulled off great feats in her quest to stop Salem.

Nevertheless, fans love comparing the old with the new. If there were one character who'd resonate with Ruby, it'd be Gon from Hunter x Hunter. Moreover, here are ten things that Ruby and Gon have in common.

10 Similar Dreams

When Ruby was younger, her half-sister Yang Xiao Long read her many fairy tales about legendary huntsmen and huntresses. These fairy tales and their Uncle Qrow Branwen saving her and Yang from Beowolves inspired Ruby to become a huntress.

Similarly, Gon wanted to become a hunter because he wanted to know why Ging (his father) left him behind with his cousin, Mito Freecss. Furthermore, Ging's student Kite's decision to save Gon from a Foxbear also inspired the boy to become a hunter. These comparable scenarios influenced Gon and Ruby's dreams.

9 Trained At Professional Facilities

Both characters attended facilities and needed professional licenses to become official hunters. Before attending Beacon Academy, Ruby studied at Signal Academy in hopes of mastering her signature scythe weapon, Crescent Rose.

After being praised by Beacon's headmaster Ozpin, Ruby was allowed entry into Beacon. At Beacon, she became the leader of Team RWBY, established new friendships, and learned the ways of the huntress. Despite all that, it isn't until RWBY's seventh volume that Ruby receives her professional huntress license.

As for Gon, he only attended one hunter exam to become a pro hunter. The challenges involved answering deceptive questions, endurance and survival training, and defeating opponents in one-on-one combat. Unlike Ruby, Gon received his license after completing the exam.

8 Had Multiple Mentors

Ruby and Gon had their fair share of mentors. When Ruby was still developing Crescent Rose and sharpening her huntress skills at Signal Academy, Qrow taught her everything she needed to know about wielding such a weapon. While at Beacon, Ruby learned how to be a team player through missions and class lectures. Later in the series, Ruby met the legendary silver-eyed warrior Maria Calavera, who helped her understand the ins-and-outs of her silver eyes.

As for Gon, he had many mentors too. Individuals like Netero and the Kiriko taught Gon how to be strategic and cautious. Wing and Bisky helped Gon learn and strengthen his nen. Professional hunters like Kite, Morel, and Knov helped Gon surpass his limits and unlock a power that could perhaps rival the Chimera Ant King, Meruem.

7 Are Part Of Four-Person Teams

As RWBY's title suggests, Ruby's the leader of Team RWBY that features her half-sister, Yang Xiao Long, former Schnee Dust Company heiress Weiss Schnee, and Blake Belladonna, who's the daughter of the current Menagerie Chief, Ghira Belladonna.

Though teams aren't a thing in Hunter x Hunter, Gon's bond with Kurapika, Leorio, and Killua is similar. Gon and his friends have worked together against foes like Tonpa, Hisoka, and the Phantom Troupe. One can argue that the color schemes for both groups are nearly identical, although Ruby and Gon ruin this noteworthy comparison. Essentially, Yang, Weiss, and Blake's yellow, white, and black colors compare to Kurapika, Killua, and Leorio based on their appearances.

6 Abandoned Their Teams

Ruby and Jaune in Rwby

In RWBY, this happens during the series's fourth and fifth volumes, although Ruby's team reunites in volume five's last episode. Ruby teams up with Team JNPR to head for Haven based on the information she received from Qrow. The reason she does not travel to Haven with her team is that they've all gone their separate ways or were not interested in heading there.

After the hunter exam, Gon only traveled with Killua because Kurapika and Leorio wanted to pursue something different. After the hunter exam concluded, Leorio secluded himself to his medical studies while Kurapika left the group to find work. Although they reunite in Yorknew City, they all depart from each other again. Gon, Kurapika, Leorio, and Killua have yet to reunite as a team since then.

5 Have Guardians Who Are Missing-In-Action

Ruby and Gon both have guardians whose whereabouts are unknown, and these guardians are Summer Rose and Gon's unnamed mother. Summer took care of Ruby and Yang after their father's fallout with Yang's mother, Raven Branwen. However, the family crumbled when Summer took on a secret mission and never returned home. Her disappearance was a mystery to Qrow, Ozpin, and her husband, and currently, she's believed to be deceased.

As for Gon's mother, Gon's father has commented on the topic before. Ging claims that he and Gon's mother went their separate ways and that he doesn't know about her whereabouts. Hopefully, more information surrounding Gon's and Ruby's mother will be shared in due time.

4 Haven't Been In Relationships

In both series, Ruby and Gon have not been in a relationship yet. Ruby's had some quirky, adorable one-on-one moments with Jaune and Oscar but nothing too major. Nora, Ren, Yang, and Blake have had more discussions regarding relationships than Ruby.

Similarly, Gon hasn't been in a relationship yet. At one point during the Chimera Ant Arc, Gon dates Palm, and this makes Killua believe something romantic's going on between the two. To Killua's relief, Gon treated the date as the others he had at Whale Island – fun and nothing more. Nevertheless, it wouldn't be too far-fetched to suggest that Ruby or Gon will end up with someone by RWBY's or Hunter X Hunter's conclusion.

3 Have Signature Weapons

The way these characters use their weapons is generally the same. Ruby uses Crescent Rose as a close and long-range weapon since it's "High Caliber Sniping Scythe." The scythe has three modes based on transportation, head-to-head combat, and sniping enemies from afar. Her ammunition even takes the form of elements like fire, ice, and electricity. Unlike Gon, Ruby still uses Crescent Rose when taking on enemies.

As for Gon, his long-forgotten main-weapon was the fishing rod he attained at Whale Island. He used it prominently during the Hunter Exam and Heaven's Arena arcs. Like Ruby's Crescent Rose, Gon's used his fishing rod for close-and-long-range combat and mobility. Some examples include snatching Hisoka's tag during the hunter exams and lifting a flagstone to put a stop to Gido's spinning strategy during their fight. Gon also used his fishing rod to hit wild beasts and as a graveling-hook to increase his mobility.

2 Awakened Higher Powers

Although their abilities are different, both characters awakened these powers under similar circumstances. Pyrrha's demise awakens Ruby's silver eyes, and she uses this power to attack Cinder and a Wyvern. Though Ruby doesn't kill either adversary, Cinder is left in bad shape; losing an eye, arm, and even her voice for a majority of RWBY's next volume.

As for Gon, Neferpitou is the one responsible for Gon awakening his powers due to not following through with the plan to revive Gon's friend Kite after being the one responsible for ending his life. Thus, Ruby and Gon's emotions and eyesight played a role in helping them awaken their dormant powers.

1 Have Enemies Who Are Out To Take Them Down

Ruby and Gon have encountered antagonists who developed personal vendettas against them. After Ruby's silver eyes left Cinder heavily wounded, she swore vengeance against the former and wishes to be the one to take her down. Cinder even had her henchman, Emerald, create a fake illusion of Ruby so that she could burn her alive.

As for Gon, Hisoka wants to be the one to end him. Although Hisoka loves battling strong opponents, what he loves most is crushing devoted individuals with strong wills. Hisoka notes that Gon has both and wants to be the one to take those away from him.
