New RWBY Deckbuilding Game Headed to Steam

Rooster Teeth Games and 80Arcade will launch RWBY Deckbuilding Game, a free-to-play digital card game based on Rooster Teeth Productions' hit animated series RWBY.

The game, which is reminiscent of other free-to-play card games such as Hearthstone and Yu-Gi-Oh! DUEL LINKS, will be available on PC via Steam, as well on mobile via iOS and Android. What sets it apart from similar titles, however, is its approach to the way players add cards to their arsenal.

RWBY Deckbuilding Game allows players to build their deck while playing thanks to a pool that cards are purchased from with energy provided by other cards. Moreover, there are no booster packs to chase. Rather, each expansion makes for a complete, unique experience "right out of the box," so to speak.

These cards -- which prominently feature fan-favorite characters like Ruby, Weiss, Blake and Yang -- can be used to take on AI opponents as well as other players. With victory comes in-game currency that can be spent on various cosmetics.

Additionally, players can unlock Relic Adventure mode, which allows them to challenge the AI and take on a boss in order to win the "Relic frame version" of their cards. Players can also purchase Raids, which allow them to team up with others to take the fight to even more powerful enemies with greater rewards as their prize.

"I'm so excited for RWBY fans to play this game and experience RWBY in a whole new way," series writer/director Kerry Shawcross said. "The RWBY Deckbuilding Game gives RWBY fans a new way to experience the world of Remnant."

This game is only the latest instance of RWBY expanding past its original animated form. Rooster Teeth Games has already previously released RWBY: Grimm Eclipse and RWBY: Amity Arena.

Additionally, several RWBY manga volumes have been published by VIZ Media. Last year at New York Comic Con, Rooster Teeth also announced that they had teamed up with DC Comics to publish comic books based on RWBY, as well as the company's new animated original gen:LOCK.

RWBY Deck Building Game will soon be available on Steam, iOS and Android.
