The iconic survival game Rust is finally coming to home consoles. After years of PC exclusivity, both PlayStation and Xbox players will be able to jump into the turbulent world of Rust and carve out a piece of land all for themselves. Here's everything you need to know about Rust for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Rust's been one of the top survival games on Steam even since its 2013 debut. For over eight years, Rust's enthralled gamers with its stringent survival gameplay and bustling online community. Unfortunately, console gamers haven't experienced Rust and its unique community until now. The survival epic is finally gearing up to make the jump on home consoles, expanding Rust's wild world further than ever before.

Plot

Rust's plot is simple, figure out how to survive on a desolate island with minimal supplies while fending off predators and other threatening specimens. Players are thrown onto a mysterious island with nothing but their minds and the ambition to survive. They must gather supplies and create tools, shelter, and weapons to aid them in their turbulent journey. However, they aren't the only survivors attempting to colonize the island. Other settlers congregate parts of the island as well, causing players to compete with rival players or join forces to build an impenetrable society.

Release Date

Survival fans won't have to wait too much longer for Rust's highly anticipated console debut. The game will hit both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One sometime this spring. Originally set for a 2020 release, Covid-19 restricts and transiting to at-home work environment caused some hiccups in development, forcing Facepunch Studios to delay the game into the second part of 2021.

Despite a few development hiccups brought on by the global pandemic, Rust's console ports seem to be coming along quite nicely. Facepunch is already accepting applicants for its closed console beta. Players can apply for the beta through Rust's website, where Facepunch will randomly select players until March 29th. Lucky gamers will receive the beta’s access key, giving them a peek inside the innovative console port.

Sadly, Facepunch hasn't announced a next-gen version of Rust just yet. Facepunch announced the console port back in 2019 before the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X entered the market. There's talk about bringing Rust to next-gen consoles, but gamers shouldn't expect it anytime soon. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One editions seem to be a top priority, although next-gen ports aren't entirely out of the question.

Trailer

Rust's trailer highlights the game's vast open-world while showing off some of its first-person combat. The graphics are quite impressive and seem to push contemporary consoles to their limits. Despite its vagueness, it gives players a great glimpse inside the chaotic world of Rust. If the trailer is an accurate representation of the final product, gamers have a lot to look forward to with Rust's console editions.

After more than eight years of PC exclusivity, console games will finally be able to experience Rust and all its glory. Although the game is more than eight years old, it's been able to withstand the test of time and persevere through the better part of a decade. Rust isn't showing any signs of slowing down anytime soon as it prepares to make the jump to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Hopefully, Facepunch Studios will bring the infamous survival game to next-gen consoles shortly after porting it to contemporary hardware. If you are a fan of hardcore survival games or just looking for something new to get lost in, Rust should be on your gaming radar.
