Speaking with ComicBook.com at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, the Russo brothers were asked about their feelings on James Gunn, who served as a producer on Avengers: Endgame, and his return to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. "Yeah, I think it's fantastic," Joe Russo answered. "I think he's an exceptional film maker and James really is the Guardians of the Galaxy. It would be hard to imagine anyone else taking the mantle of those characters and I think fans all over the world are very excited he's back."
Gunn's return to close out the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy has been met with support from his peers at Marvel, with both Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista and various other directors previously reacting positively to his rehiring.
Written and directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 does not currently have a release date. The film is reportedly scheduled to begin production in February 2021. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers: Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Benedict Wong, Jon Favreau and Bradley Cooper, with Gwyneth Paltrow and Josh Brolin. The film arrives April 26.
