In a step up for diversity, Pixar introduced the first openly gay Disney character in the recently released film OnwardHowever, the scene featuring the character was apparently changed for its Russian translation.

Once scene in the film features a cyclops police woman named Officer Specter, who at one point says that she has a girlfriend. For those seeing Onward in Russia, the word "girlfriend" was changed to "partner", according to The Moscow Times. The Russian branch of Disney hasn't released any information on why they decided to switch the words.

Russia has been known to censor scenes featuring LGBT characters in the past. In a similar situation to Onward, the dialogue was changed in a scene from Avengers: Endgame, seemingly to hide that a character was gay.

Officer Specter was voiced in the film by Lena Waithe, who has had appearances in several popular television shows, including Master of None, Westworld, Dear White People, Transparent and This is Us.
