Rupert Wyatt Exits The Equalizer

Rupert Wyatt seems to be having trouble holding down a job. After successfully rejuvenating Fox’s Planet of the Apes franchise with last year’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes, the director walked away from the sequel because he didn’t think there was enough time to film the effects-heavy feature. Wyatt then moved on to helm Sony’s adaptation of the ’80s TV series The Equalizer, starring Denzel Washington.

But now he’s moved on again, with Deadline reporting that other obligations created a scheduling conflict.

The original Equalizer ran for four seasons, from 1985 to 1989, on CBS, with Edward Woodward starring as former intelligence officer Robert McCall, who offers his very specific set of skills to people who need help in an effort to make up for events in his past.

Sony is expected to find a replacement director in an effort to hit the intended April 11, 2014, release date.
