Ever since James Gunn was fired as the director of Guardians of the Galaxy 3, rumors have swirled over who will replace him. Now a new rumor suggests Disney and Marvel Studios are looking to hire Bumblebee director Travis Knight for the job.

The rumor comes from The DisInsider, which cites a source close to the production. The article also claims that, before Chloe Zhao was given the job, Knight was on Disney's shortlist to direct the MCU film The Eternals.

Knight has produced several animated films for Laika Studios, including ParaNorman and The Boxtrolls. He also directed the well-received Kubo and the Two Strings. His first first foray into live-action directing, the Transformers spin-off Bumblebee, is set to hit the big screen on December 21. The early buzz surrounding that film has been positive.

After Gunn's firing, Guardians 3 was put on indefinite hold until the studio could find the right director to replace him. The studio was originally rumored to be searching for a female director, but this latest rumor calls that information into question. Disney has played it very close to the vest when it comes to the Guardians threequel, so it's unclear how accurate either rumor might be. As of right now, there is no confirmed director and the final cast list is still up in the air.
