SPOILER WARNING: The following article contains potential spoilers for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2."

When director James Gunn confirmed that “Rocky” legend Sylvester Stallone would appear in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," the only clue given to his character was that he interacts with Yondu (Michael Rooker) in the film's first teaser. Early speculation pointed to Stallone being a member of Yondu's Ravager crew, or perhaps even a member of the Nova Corps.

The mystery surrounding Stallone's role has remained a mystery ever since, though we did recently learn his character will be working with recently announced cast addition Michael Rosenbaum's character. Now, an international press release received by MoviesBook may reveal exactly which Marvel superhero Stallone will be portraying.

MoviesBook posted a screenshot of an alleged international press release for the Marvel Studios film with each actor credited with the character they are playing. The final line lists Sylvester Stallone in the role of "Stakar." By itself, the name may not ring any bells, but in Marvel Comics lore, Stakar is the first name of the cosmic time-traveling hero Starhawk.

Stakar Ogord a.k.a. Starhawk was created by Steve Gerber and Steve Buscema and debuted in 1975's "The Defenders" #27. He hails from the alternate Earth-691 timeline in the 31st century and gained his enhanced powers from the Hawk God of Arcturus.

All of this information should be taken with a huge grain of salt considering the authenticity of the press release can't be validated. MoviesBook tweeted to Gunn for clarification, but the director has thus far declined to comment. With good reason, we assume, since confirming, or even denying Stallone's role at this point would potentially spoil a huge surprise for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2." Plus, if Gunn wanted the world to know which character Stallone will be, it could have been revealed in the same manner that Kurt Russell's Ego the Living Planet made his grand entrance at the end of the last Guardians trailer. For now, we'll have to wait to see if this rumor turns out to be true when "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" lands in theaters this next month.

Debuting in theaters on May 5, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” is a production of Marvel Studios directed by James Gunn and starring Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Vin Diesel as Baby Groot, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon, Dave Bautista as Drax, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha, Chris Sullivan as Taserface, Kurt Russell as Ego the Living Planet and Sylvester Stallone.
