With pre-production under way on "Creature from the Black Lagoon," The Tracking Board reports Universal Pictures has offered Scarlett Johansson a lead role in the third film in its expanded horror universe.

It's of course remake of the 1954 classic, in which a group of scientists on an expedition in the Amazon discovers a primordial creature that's part human and part fish. Johansson would fill the role of Kay Lawrence, famously played in the original by Julie Adams.

David Kajganich, who penned "The Invasion" remake, has been tapped to write the script.

"Dracula Untold" kicked off the expanded horror universe in October. Universal also has other horror universe films in the works, including "The Mummy," which will be directed by Alex Kurtzman.
