Another day, another batch of Guardians of the Galaxy rumors. The latest one seems decidedly unlikely, as it's being reported that Marvel is asking about the availability of Adam Sandler and Jim Carrey for the upcoming space adventure.

Latino Review has the scoop, although the site don't know what roles Sandler or Carrey would be up for. The guess is Rocket Raccoon or Groot, and we'd have to agree, but it seems strange to have such a big name play in that role when lesser-known actors are being considered for the other Guardians.

This could be just the kind of role Carrey is looking for. He's already taken a part in Kick-Ass 2, so jumping on board the Marvel train would be a natural next step. Sandler could definitely use a career reboot as well, though we don't know if we'd like to see this be the film he uses to do so.

Then again, if we're going off the above concept art, it could be that whoever is chosen for Rocket Raccoon is only expected to lend their voice for the role. If that's the case, then a recognizable comedian like Sandler or Carrey could be perfect for the role.

The report also includes a list of new contenders for the role of Star-Lord that are slightly more believable. Apparently Wes Bentley, Chris Lowell and Cam Gigandet are reading for the part, but no offers have been made yet. They'll join the long list that supposedly include John Krasinski, Zachary Levi, Jim Sturgess, Lee Pace, Eddie Redmayne and Joel Edgerton. Meanwhile, Isaiah Mustafah, Dave Batista and Brian Patrick Wade are reportedly reading for Drax the Destroyer.

Directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy is due out on Aug. 1, 2014.
