Alicia Vikander, who brought Lara to life in the rebooted film, returns to once more lace-up Lara's boots on another adventure. The sequel to 2018's Tomb Raider adaptation may be drawing inspiration from the 2018 video game and third instalment in the reboot series, Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

That is according to GeekVibesNation, who also reported that principal photography is scheduled to start in April with a projected release date of March 21, 2021. Filming will take place across a number of countries, including England, South Africa, Finland and China. Looking to deliver a faithful adaptation of the games' story, the movies will allegedly be embracing more of the supernatural elements and tones that gamers have connected with.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is set after the events of Rise of the Tomb Raider. It follows Lara as she traverses through densely tropical regions of the Americas and battles against the paramilitary organization, Trinity, who hound her as she searches for the legendary lost city of Paititi, in an effort to stop a Mayan apocalypse from being unleashed upon the world.

The film adaptation of the rebooted video game series drew elements from both the 2013 video game reboot, Tomb Raider, and its 2015 sequel, Rise of the Tomb Raider. The focus of the rebooted game series, and by extension the film adaptations, attempts to provide insight into Lara's development from an eager, but unprepared academic to the masterful -- if not slightly reckless -- archaeologist fans are familiar with.

Directed by Ben Wheatley with a screenplay from Amy Jump, the Tomb Raider sequel stars Alicia Vikander. The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters March 21, 2021.
