Eternals' Rumored Gay Lead Character May Be One Of Thor's Oldest Rivals

Marvel-Studios-Eternals

A new rumor indicates The Eternals, one of Marvel Studios' upcoming films, might feature the Greek hero Hercules as its lead.

According to MCU Cosmic, Hercules is also the same hero for whom Marvel Studios is seeking an openly gay actor. Of course, the film is still early in production, so its best at this time to take this rumor with a grain of salt. Many of the casting calls have listed the characters for The Eternals under codenames, so it is impossible as of yet to confirm the rumor. However, if this rumor proves true, the Greek Pantheon may exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe -- offering a counterpoint to Thor and Asgard.

There's some precedent for such a choice. In the comics, there is Earth-12025, where Hercules is in a romantic relationship with James Howlett -- Wolverine himself. Although the version of Marvel's Hercules most comics fans are familiar with comes from Earth-616 and is known for his exploits with women, it's totally possible Marvel will opt to go with the Earth-12025 incarnation of the character's sexuality.

As of right now, casting details for The Eternals is unavailable. However, Angelina Jolie recently joined the film, and it's possible she might end up playing the Greek demigod. Still, with production starting soon on The Eternals, news will be coming sooner rather than later.
