This year is rapidly shaping up to become a banner year for Nintendo's beloved Pokemon franchise. In addition to new films and video game titles, a widely rumored character may soon be available on the popular mobile game Pokemon Go.A fan has shared source code from an upcoming update to the game listing a character known as "Mewtwo_A." An armored Mewtwo was briefly seen in the original animated Pokemon film, 1998's Pokemon: The First Movie. With the movie receiving a CGI remake this July in Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution, the update may come as soon as this summer as a potential tie-in.

In addition to the enhanced remake, Mewtwo will be appearing in next month's live-action film Detective Pikachu and is rumored to make an appearance in his armored form with the upcoming Pokemon Sword and Shield, the latest generation of Nintendo's iconic video game series. Whatever form he appears in Pokemon Go, Mewtwo is poised to have a major presence in the franchise throughout the rest of the year.

Pokemon Go is developed by Niantic, Inc. and is currently available on iOS and Android devices.
