Late-2015 saw word break that Oscar winner Cate Blanchett had entered into talks with Marvel Studios to join the cast of "Thor: Ragnarok," the third solo film starring Chris Hemsworth as the god of thunder. Details have been slim since then, with the most information anyone offering was THR's assertion that Marvel was looking for a "bad-ass female" character.

"I heard that maybe she was circling ['Thor: Ragnarok'], they were talking to her about the part, so I ran up to her and I was like, 'Please, please, please make this work!'" Ruffalo told Entertainment Tonight at the BAFTA Awards. "She's just one of the best, and to have her play a baddie is going to be really exciting."

Marvel has yet to officially confirm that talks are indeed underway with Blanchett, but if Ruffalo's comments are accurate, they may narrow down the potential list of characters the actor might tackle. Rather than playing an ally of Thor, the actor's comments indicate Blanchett would follow in Tom Hiddleston and Christopher Eccleston's footsteps as one of the franchise's villains, perhaps giving life to Hela, goddess of the underworld, or the Enchantress, a longtime Thor villain.

Directed by Taika Waititi and starring Hemsworth and Ruffalo (and possibly Blanchett), "Thor: Ragnarok" is scheduled to be released on November 3, 2017.
