Add another series regular to AMC's "Fear The Walking Dead" cast: actor and musician Ruben Blades, who Deadline reports is official as Daniel, the father of Mercedes Mason's character, Ofelia. Blades was originally reported as in contention for the role on the "Walking Dead" companion series earlier this month.

"I think the most surprising thing about this show for fans is, we'll be pointing out all the things that we glossed over on the other show," "Walking Dead" franchise creator Robert Kirkman said in a conference call last week with press. "I think having Rick wake up in this coma was certainly a fun dynamic and a great way to open the original show. But actually watching civilization crumble around these people and getting to experience them learning how to adapt in a much faster way, and with much more danger and much more uncertainty, is going to make this show very different."

Blades joins a cast also including Kim Dickens as Madison, Cliff Curtis as Travis, Frank Dillane as Nick, Alycia Debnam-Carey as Alicia and Elizabeth Rodriguez as Liza. Set in Los Angeles and depicting a different perspective of the zombie apocalypse chronicled in AMC's comic book-based smash-hit "The Walking Dead," "Fear The Walking Dead" doesn't yet have a firm premiere date, but is expected to debut in late summer.
