By now you’ve probably heard of Rubber. If you haven’t, here’s all you need to know: It’s about a killer tire. Sorry, killer car tire. Let’s face it — bicycle tires aren’t particularly threatening.
It is the second film from director Quentin Depieux and it is now available via Video On Demand. I know this because I watched the latest trailer, a family-unfriendly red band featuring a generous helping of blood and gore. You should go watch it. Because it’s about a killer tire, which you really just don’t see every day.
The exploding bunny really sets a tone, right? The best is the way the trailer establishes pathos for our homicidal hunk of rubber. It bears witness to a tire fire and sadness ensues, quickly morphing into homicidal rage. Right? What’s cool about this killer tire is, it doesn’t run people over; instead, it makes a rattlesnake noise and then someone’s head explodes. It’s delightfully, stupidly bizarre and it deserves your attention for that reason.
Also, this may be a bit older, but check out this killer poster for Rubber from legendary artist Boris Vallejo, who famously did the iconic posters for Barbarella and the first two National Lampoon’s Vacation movies.
Rubber opens in theaters on April 1.
