WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Roswell, New Mexico Season 3, Episode 1, "Hands," which aired Monday on the CW.

As Roswell, New Mexico has developed over the years, it's been revealed that Maria's (Heather Hemmens) psychic powers are more than just heightened intuition. Instead, her abilities are alien and can actually predict the future. While her visions have their positives, they also have a major negative, taking a huge toll on her health. Along with that, her latest vision also spells disaster for another character on Roswell, New Mexico.

While it's been established throughout Season 2 that when Maria uses her abilities it takes a huge physical toll on her, Season 3, Episode 1, "Hands," solidifies just how dangerous this is. Each time she uses her powers, a piece of her brain is damaged, so if she continues to allow these visions to happen, then her brain will be eaten away until it is too late.

For Kyle (Michael Trevino), this is especially frustrating because there is a way for them to stop the visions from temporarily happening, and that's thanks to a unique yellow flower. The powder from it can stop alien abilities, and with Michael (Michael Vlamis) gifting Maria a bracelet made from said flower, she can delay the deterioration of her mind until a new solution presents itself.

However, Maria refuses to wear the bracelet because these powers are a part of her and they may be able to help them later down the line. Especially after her latest vision, Maria is adamant that she needs to keep her powers active. She foresees a funeral, and based on the physical state Max (Nathan Parsons) is in, Kyle assumes this is his funeral because his heart is failing.

It's understandable why Maria would want to keep her powers. They're uniquely hers, they connect her to her family, and now,  they have given her insight on the potential fate of a dear friend. Thankfully, a second vision happens toward the end of "Hands," revealing that Max is once again alive, and instead, Isobel (Lily Cowles), Alex (Tyler Blackburn), Maria and Max are covering up yet another murder.

Back in Season 1, it was revealed that Isobel, Max and Michael covered up Rosa's (Amber Midthunder) murder when they thought Isobel was behind it, so this raises two questions: who is dead and why the covering up? The only people "safe" are Isobel, Max, Alex and Maria, so there are plenty of others whose lives could be on the line, including all of the Ortechos.

Along with someone dying, the implication that this is yet another cover up is concerning. Rosa was not the only death they had to manipulate, as seen with Noah (Karan Oberoi). Despite Noah being a serial killer, because he was an alien, they could not hold him accountable for his numerous murders. This meant never clearing Rosa's name, even though it would bring the Ortechos peace and hopefully end the racist attacks targeting them.

If Max and company are covering up yet another death, then it's likely that this death is somehow related to aliens, and the pool of people in the know about this is currently small, but that could change in upcoming episodes, as Roswell, New Mexico airs Mondays at 8/7c on the CW.  It's still unknown who's in the casket, but it is certain that someone's life is on the line, as is Maria's if she keeps having these visions.
