Rosario Dawson Says Luke Cage Season 2 May Be Her Last Marvel TV Role

Rosario Dawson, who has been a part of the MCU’s Netflix programming since its 2015 debut, may be moving on after the upcoming second season of Luke Cage.

While appearing on a panel at MCM Comic Con London this past weekend, Dawson indicated her time in the MCU may be coming to an end. “Yeah, its pretty wild actually. I don’t know if I’ll be back after this, to be honest, but it’s been an amazing few years,” reflected Dawson, who has appeared as Claire Temple across every single Marvel Netflix series except the first season of The Punisher. “I’ve been on a lot of different shows. I mean, I don’t know if maybe they do a third season of Luke Cage potentially, or maybe if they figure out some kind of way for me to be on The Punisher – just so I can feel like I’ve done every show.”

First introduced in Season 1 of Daredevil in 2015, Claire Temple — known to Marvel Comics readers as Night Nurse — has been the recurring character linking all of the first wave of Marvel Netflix programming from the first two seasons of Daredevil, the first season of Jessica Jones, the first two seasons of Luke Cage, the first season of Iron Fist and the miniseries crossover The Defenders.

Over the course of her appearances, the character has grown from clandestine emergency medical support for Matt Murdock and Jessica Jones to amateur martial artist helping Danny Rand to Luke Cage’s main love interest. Dawson will reprise her role as Temple next month on the second season of Luke Cage.

Dawson revealed that her personal responsibilities may be a major factor for her potential departure.

“My daughter is in high school, so I kind of want to not be 3000 miles away for work,” Dawson admitted.

What this may mean for Temple’s role in the upcoming season of Luke Cage is still an ominous mystery, as the Hero of Harlem is poised to take on Mustafa Shakir’s Bushmaster in the new season.

Arriving on June 22 on Netflix, the second season of Luke Cage stars Mike Colter, Simone Missick, Alfre Woodard, Theo Rossi, Rosario Dawson, Mustafa Shakir and Gabrielle Dennis.
