Ron Marz first garnered widespread attention and critical praise for his work on Silver Surfer and Green Lantern in the 1990s. He has worked on numerous licensed properties including Star Wars, virtually every major comic franchise, and major comic book events such as Marvel vs. DC and Batman/Aliens. More recently, he co-created Samurai: Heaven & Earth for Dark Horse Comics with artist Luke Ross and is writing Friday the 13th: Bad Land. He also edits three titles for Virgin Comics’ Shakti line, which endeavors to bring comics inspired by traditional Indian mythology to a U.S. comic audience.

Some of his best work can be found in Top Cow Productions’ series Witchblade, which Marz helped revitalize and usher into a new, critically acclaimed era. Marz has been writing the series for over 35 issues and is currently scheduled to write it until at least 2010, a substantial commitment for any writer. This past summer he also authored Top Cow’s major event First Born. In March, his First Born collaborator, painter Stjepan Sejic, will join him on Witchblade #116. Both creators have pledged to remain on the title until at least issue #150. In celebration of Marz’s contribution to the Witchblade series, Top Cow has rebranded their Witchblade trade paperback line to begin with Marz’s first issue on the series. Witchblade Volume 1 contains Marz’s first six issues in full color for only $4.99 (exclusively at comic shops).

“The Baltimore Comic-Con is one of my favorite shows of the year,” commented Marz, “so I jumped at the chance to meet more of the fans from the Baltimore/D.C. area. Plus, I don’t have to work too hard to convince fans to pick up a $5 dollar trade!”

Marz’s collaborator, artist Mike Choi, will be a guest at WonderCon in San Francisco on Saturday and Sunday to meet West Coast fans.
