Independence Day isn't the only film from his past that Roland Emmerich wants to revisit. The White House Down director told Digital Spy he's in talks to reboot his dimension-hopping sci-fi film Stargate.

"We went to MGM, who has the rights, and proposed to them to do a sequel, but as a reboot ... and reboot it as a movie and then do three parts," Emmerich said. "Pretty soon we'll have to look for a writer and start."

The 1994 sci-fi film, written and directed by Emmeric, spawned a line of TV shows like Stargate: SG-1, Atlantis and Universe along with an animated series called Stargate: Infinity and a pair of straight-to-DVD movies named Stargate: The Ark of Truth and Continuum.

The original film starred Kurt Russell and James Spader, and revolved around the discovery of a Stargate, an ancient ring that allows wormhole travel between gates. Emmerich does not plan on going back to any of the original actors for the new film. "The actors look totally different ... it would not work," he said.
