Robert Rodriguez is one of those directors who seems attached to more films than one guy could possibly handle. But, he's looking to cross a few of those flicks of his to-do list this summer with Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For starting to film this summer as well as spearheading the sequel to 2010's Danny Trejo-starring blood-soaked action flick Machete, which just might star Mel Gibson. The director talked to The Hollywood Reporter about his work load and how Sin City 2 might interfere with Machete Kills.

"Currently I am directing it,” he said. "But we’re checking to see if there’s going to be the need for another director if I have to go off and do Sin City. I wasn’t sure what the timing on Sin City was or if I would have to step off to do Sin City at a certain point, depending on when Machete went. But Machete looks like it’s going to go pretty quickly so it’s possible that I will direct the whole thing."

Rodriguez went on to say that he loves the action scenes in the script, but, if he does have to step away to work on Sin City 2, he'd like to get at least the scenes with the main actors in the can before handing the project over to someone else.

"I feel like I really need to do it," he said. "It’s so subjective I feel like I really need to get in there and do it. It’s just a lot of fun; it’s a really cool concept, and I think it takes it to another level in a way that’s compelling for me to go and do it myself."

Machete Kills will act as the second film in a proposed trilogy starring the character, pitting the titular hero against an arms dealer and a cartel leader who have joined forces to create a weapon capable of attacking from space. Recruited by the U.S. government, Machete — possibly along with some of his pals who survived the first film — must put a stop to these megalomaniacs. The film is scheduled for a 2013 release.
