Ahead of the movie's 36th anniversary this fall, Sylvester Stallone has finally completed his director's cut of Rocky IV.

Stallone confirmed the news with a video on his Instagram account, writing "Last day of completing ROCKY 4 !!! Get Ready to RUMBLE!!!." The video shows him in a dark theater with the new cut of Rocky IV being projected on the screen. He goes on to describe the filmmaking process, saying "[A movie's] never complete. I've said this before, you can go back and see a movie that you've done 50 years ago [and be like] 'God, I would love to re-edit that.' And every director feels that same way. It's not about making a movie, it's about remaking [it]."

"Unfortunately, you run out of time, you run out of money -- they basically throw you out of the [editing] room," he continued. "So, therefore, you don't get a chance. But, on [Rocky IV], we finally got a chance, so I'm feeling great about this."

Released in Nov. 1985, Rocky IV pits Stallone's "Italian Stallion" against Ivan Drago, a Soviet-era boxer who kills Rocky's rival-turned friend Apollo Creed during a vicious exhibition match. Known for being the ultimate Cold War-era film, in terms of its style and politics, Rocky IV was a huge box office hit despite mixed reviews, with the Rotten Tomatoes critics' consensus reading, "Rocky IV inflates the action to absurd heights, but it ultimately rings hollow thanks to a story that hits the same basic beats as the first three entries in the franchise." Stallone hasn't revealed too much about how the new cut will differ from the theatrical version, beyond removing an infamous subplot in which Paulie gets a robot companion.

The full synopsis for Rocky IV reads,

After reclaiming the boxing championship title, Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) plans to retire and live with his wife, Adrian (Talia Shire). However, during an exhibition match, Rocky's friend Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) is mercilessly beaten to death by hulking Russian newcomer Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren). Rocky vows payback against Drago and flies to Russia to train for a Christmas Day fight. Despite their different training methods, Rocky and Drago both wage a long and intense match.

Written and directed by Sylvester Stallone, Rocky IV stars Stallone, Carl Weathers, Talia Shire, Burt Young, Brigitte Nielson and Dolph Lundgren.
