New rumors suggest that Rocksteady Studios is once again working on a Superman video game to carry on the legacy of the Batman: Arkham trilogy.

Rocksteady's critically acclaimed Dark Knight-focused game series began in 2009 with Batman: Arkham Asylum. The developer was also responsible for Batman: Arkham City in 2011, and rounded out the franchise with Batman: Arkham Knight in 2015. Fans have been waiting for a continuation ever since, and it now looks like the developers will move the story to Metropolis.

A new title has appeared on Game System Requirements that cryptically teases Superman: World's Finest. The game is listed under the action-adventure genre, and, although there's no official release date, the site is the same one that leaked Devil May Cry V prior to its official announcement.

Superman: The World's Finest listing coincides with an IGN article that points out a job listing from Rocksteady in which the company was looking to hire for "a AAA title on the next generation platforms." Considering the Game Awards is just two weeks away and has promised 10 new game announcements, Superman: The World's Finest (or any Rocksteady game) would be a major announcement for the event.

Earlier this year, an open-world Superman game was rumored to be in the works. Leaks claimed that only the Man of Steel would be playable (not Clark Kent), that the main villain had been narrowed down to Brainiac and that the expansive Metropolis would be roughly three times the size of Arkham Knight's Gotham backdrop.

Batman: Arkham Knight gave Bruce Wayne's Batman a pretty definitive ending. Despite there being several ways the story could continue, it makes sense for Rocksteady to focus its efforts on other members of the Justice League and possibly bring an open-world Justice League game to consoles and PC one day.

The fact that Rocksteady is hiring for next-gen consoles would mean that the next game likely won't be around until post-2020. The Arkham games featured many heroes and villains from the world of Batman, but had no direct connection to Superman himself. That being said, Arkham Knight included a number of Superman Easter eggs and hinted at the likes of LexCorp and Metropolis

It's also important to note that sources recently claimed that Rocksteady was working on a Justice League game instead of a Superman standalone. Either way, it sounds like the AAA developer's next project is sticking with the world of DC. Currently, Rocksteady is remaining tight-lipped on the rumors, so fans will have to wait and see whether Superman will really get to fly into Rocksteady's world of superheroes.
