Disney Junior's upcoming The Rocketeer series will feature Billy Campbell, the film's star, in a prominent role.
Geeky Tyrant reports that Campbell, who played the titular Rocketeer in the 1991 film, will voice a character in the upcoming animated take on the comic book. According to the report, he'll play Dave Secord, the father of the series lead. Here's the show's synopsis:
Seven-year-old aspiring pilot, Kit Secord, learns she’s next in line to become The Rocketeer, a rocket-pack wearing superhero who can fly! Armed with her cool new gear and secret identity, Kit takes to the skies to protect her town of Hughesville and its residents from danger. Assisting her on her heroic adventures are her best friend Tesh, bulldog sidekick Butch, and airplane mechanic grandfather, Ambrose Secord.
Created by Dave Stevens, the Rocketeer debuted in 1982's Starslayer #2 before going on to lead his own series. The story was turned into a film helmed by Captain America director Joe Johnston. The movie has since become a cult classic. Disney released the original film, so it's no surprise the studio is rebooting the concept for the modern day.
A first look at The Rocketeer debuted during Comic-Con International this year, teasing the family dynamics, technical know-how and high-flying action that will be a staple of the series. If the show does well enough, perhaps Disney will further explore the world of the comics on the big screen.
The Rocketeer will premiere on Friday, November 8 on Disney Channel, Disney Junior and DisneyNOW.
