Warner Bros. is going with some Spartan filmmakers to help bring Robotech to the big screen. Deadline reports that studio-based producers Hollywood Gang has hired 300 and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra screenwriter Michael Gordon to pen the script.

The producers are looking to bring on board Mama filmmaker Andrés Muschietti, who's attached to the video game adaptation Shadow of the Colossus.

The classic ’80s syndicated cartoon, which was actually created by re-editing three different Japanese anime series, focused on an Earth defending itself from gigantic aliens with equally large robots built from a downed enemy spaceships.

A film version of the series that introduced a generation of kids to anime has been in the works at Warner Bros.  for years, but never fully taken off. In 2013, commercial-turned-feature director Nic Mathieu was attached to helm, but clearly that fell apart.
