The world of RoboCop is about to expand. The film's original screenwriter, Edward Neumeier, revealed that he is working with MGM on a TV series set before the events of the original 1987 film, focused on corrupt OCP executive Dick Jones.

"It has all the cool stuff about RoboCop except no RoboCop," Neumeier told Moviehole.net in an interview. "I’m working with these two writers, Dave Parkin and Rob Gibbs, who bought this idea to a TV producer friend of mine, who then brought it to me. The first time I heard it I knew it was a cool idea because I could see a lot of things you could do with it. It’s such an interesting character."

Neumeier said that, in keeping with the tradition of the original film, he wanted to use the series as a biting satire on current events. He also said that MGM was looking for partners to get the pilot off the ground.

Ronny Cox played Jones in the original Robocop. Neumeier co-wrote the original film with Michael Miner, and the two wrote a sequel script titled Robocop Returns based on ideas they had in 1988. Neil Blomkamp was originally attached to the project but departed in August 2019; shortly afterward, Abe Forsythe stepped behind the camera. Neumeier will also serve as a producer on Robocop Returns.
