Robinson, Pugh Introduce "All-New Invaders" to Marvel NOW!

Writer James Robinson and artist Steve Pugh will team up for "All-New Invaders," a series launching in January as part of the All-New Marvel NOW! initiative that will also cast a spotlight on such characters as the Inhumans, Black Widow and Silver Surfer.

According to USA Today, the follow-up to last year's successful Marvel NOW! campaign, which saw the debut of several new titles while providing jumping-on points for others, will kick off Dec. 24 with "Avengers" #24.NOW. Written by Jonathan Hickman and drawn by Esad Ribic, the issue finds Captain America and Iron Man recruiting a new team to stop a runaway planet that's hurtling toward Earth.

The Sentinel of Liberty also features prominently in "All-New Invaders," naturally, as he reunites with World War II allies Sub-Mariner, the original Human Torch and Winter Soldier to prevent the Kree Empire from locating a device that can control gods.

"They answered America's call, went to war against the Nazi menace and fought side by side. These guys were brothers-in-arms," Robinson tells the newspaper. "As they move into more modern dramas, that link is a link you just can't undo. That will hopefully be the visceral element of this books' identity that will set it apart from the Avengers and X-Men."

"All-New Invaders" joins the previously announced "Inhuman," by writer Matt Fraction and artist Joe Madiurera, which also debuts in January. All-New Marvel NOW! will continue through April.

This is Robinson's second announced Marvel project since his abrupt departure in May from DC Comics: He's also collaborating with writer Mark Waid and artist Gabriele Dell'Otto on "Spider-Man: Family Business," an original graphic novel set to arrive in May 2014.
