Super cute fan art by illustrator Helen He shows Robin on patrol with one of Nightwing's closest (and furriest) lady friends.Haley, a three-legged grey pitbull recently adopted by Dick Grayson, is Damian Wayne's companion in the artwork. Attached to a blue leash and seeming perfectly ready to hop across rooftops alongside the Boy Wonder, Haley looks like a crime-fighting dog in training -- a perfect fit considering "Bitewing" is the nickname given to her by Barbara Gordon and other members of the Bat Family.RELATED: One of Nightwing’s Worst Enemies Just Learned His Secret Identity

Nightwing first encountered Haley during writer Tom Taylor and artist Bruno Redondo's first issue of his series, Nightwing #78. Dick saved the puppy from a group of men who were harming for her fun and, after she instinctually bit him in response, he reflected on the dark nature of the city he had chosen for his home. "Blüdhaven doesn't have the madness of Gotham...it's just cruel," he explains. "And the problem is cruelty teaches cruelty... This poor girl has come through a lot and doesn't trust anyone. I remember that well."

Dick originally planned to turn Haley over to the pound, but the pup quickly became his close companion and a fan-favorite character amongst Nightwing readers. She is far from the first canine associated with a member of the Bat Family, as she is preceded by Ace the Bat-Hound, who first appeared in 1955's Batman #92, and Titus, a Great Dane who debuted in 2011's Batman and Robin #2.

Damian Wayne, in particular, has shown a great fondness for animals, often getting along with them more than humans. Grant Morrison's runs on Batman and Robin and Batman Incorporated in the late 2000s and early 2010s showed Damian inviting a large number of creatures into the Batcave, notably a cat that he named Alfred Pennyworth and a cow he saved from Professor Pyg and dubbed "Bat-Cow." In his 2015 solo series Robin: Son Of Batman, Damian also adventured alongside a dragon bat -- a massive winged beast named Goliath who most recently reappeared in Robin #4. With all of these animal companions under his belt, it's only natural that Damian would jump at the chance to dogsit Dick's new puppy.
