When Batman fans are asked who their favorite Robin is, most don’t say Damian Wayne. Often, readers will default to Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, or Tim Drake, who are the top three favorites to fill the role of Robin in DC Comics. Over the years, however, Damian Wayne has come into his own as both Bruce Wayne's son and Batman's Robin.

He has his own wonderful story arcs, and has a few runs as Robin that are among the best in the comics. While there’s a lot of stories about Damian, though, there are some discrepancies. The nature of comics is that there will be a lot of moments that maybe miss the mark, or retcons that fumble something from the past. Upon reflection, a few details of Damian’s life don’t quite make sense.

10 His Age Is Confusing

After Damian Wayne was born, Talia al Ghul decided that he had superior DNA that ought to be taken advantage of. Not only was he her son — and she, herself, is the daughter of Ra's al Ghul, and the granddaughter of Sensei, giving him a strong lineage on her side — but he’s the son of Bruce Wayne. Being the Batman, Bruce Wayne is in peak physical shape and, to Talia, a perfect specimen to father her super-child. After his birth, though, Talia sped up Damian’s aging process in some ways. He was able to achieve the body and strength of a ten-year-old before he was technically five years old. His age and his physical appearance are slightly out of whack because of this early time in his life.

9 He Kills Indiscriminately — Sometimes

Talia Al Ghul raised Damian to be an incredibly powerful assassin, among other things. He rises high in the League of Assassins, a murderer even as a child. After he gets transferred from Talia to Bruce Wayne, his father tries to instill in him that he should not kill. However, this is the complete antithesis to what Damian was raised to value.

When he and Bruce butt heads, Damian decides to leave his place at Batman’s side as his sidekick, Robin. Instead, he joins up with Nobody, but when Nobody asks him to kill, he declines. When Nobody threatens him and Bruce, though, Damian kills Nobody. His values are dramatically out of whack and his morals seem to depend on the day.

8 He Turns Against His Mother

Part of the reason Damian has such a hard time sticking around Bruce Wayne is that he misses his mother. He may be a super-powerful assassin child, but he’s still a child. He was raised by Talia Al Ghul for the beginning of his life, so losing her as a parental figure was a blow to him, even if he doesn’t express that. Maybe Damian doesn’t tell Bruce outright that he misses Talia, but he and Bruce still have a lot of friction, making it obvious he misses his mother. Despite this, when it was revealed that Talia was the leader of Leviathan, Damian teamed up with Bruce against her.

7 He Has Trouble Following Batman’s Orders

Damian Wayne may be Robin, but he is, like every Robin before him, ultimately Bruce Wayne’s son. Bruce wants to keep him safe, and when it seems that Damian is in danger, he would do anything to protect him — including faking his own son’s death.

He convinces Damian to stay inside the Batcave, and Damian agrees. Then he changes his mind, and becomes Redbird, teaming up with Jason Todd as Wingman. He changes his mind back and forth, apparently constantly alternating which he believes at any point.

6 He Risks Gotham

Like Bruce and the rest of the Batfamily, Gotham is of the utmost importance to Damian Wayne. He wants to keep the city safe, and seeing it destroyed is the last thing he would ever want to see. When Bruce Wayne sees a prophecy that shows him Gotham destroyed if Damian continues to fight crime, he tells Damian, prompting him to resign from fighting. However, despite the risk to Gotham, Damian decides to start fighting to save his teammates. This is something the old Damian never would have done, either — valuing teammates over an entire city would just be illogical.

5 He Was Brought Back To Life

Like many other DC characters — and just many other comics characters in general — Damian Wayne once passed away in canon. It’s always hard on Bruce to lose a Robin, but it was particularly hard on him to lose Damian, of all people. It was too hard, as it turned out, because Bruce ends up taking drastic measures to bring Damian back to life. This doesn’t quite make sense, as people can’t actually be brought back to life. Damian just rolls with it, too, and keeps living his life. For someone like Damian, he would definitely want to know more about this. He would probably want to know everything about this, and it’s un-Damian to move on from it so quickly, either.

4 He Apparently Can Surveil Everyone At Once

Damian Wayne may just be the super-powered child son of Talia Al Ghul and Bruce Wayne, but he is still just a child. He doesn’t have the skills that an adult can have, nor should he. He’s a boy, and he should be able to have a childhood.

This is impossible for anyone, especially a child like Damian, but it is still true. Despite the fact that he’s just a child, though, he apparently is capable of surveilling many people at once, much like his father. Even Jonathan Kent — Superboy — reveals that Damian Wayne has even been surveilling him at one point.

3 His Disguises Are Incredible

Damian shows off a number of his skills as a member of the Super Sons, along with Superboy, and one of his strongest is apparently his ability to disguise himself. He disguises himself at one point as both Jon’s bus driver and his substitute teacher. Bruce Wayne is also a master of disguise (after all, nobody knows he’s Batman) so it makes sense that Damian would be good at it, but to pass as multiple adults in a day is bewildering. The fact that he’s able to disguise himself to such a degree should actually be impossible.

2 He’s Far Too Intelligent

At the age Damian is at, he shouldn’t actually be as smart as someone Bruce Wayne’s age. He shouldn’t even be as smart as someone Dick Grayson’s age, and Dick is basically Damian’s older brother. Despite this, it appears that Damian is much smarter than he has any right being. At one point, he comments to Jon Kent that he could’ve had a doctorate by the age of seven if he wanted to. This level of skill is actually unbelievable and, quite frankly, makes no sense.

1 He Really Likes Animals

Damian doesn’t hold a lot of value in human lives. Raised as an assassin, human life is disposable to him; this is something that Bruce Wayne has to train out of him. He still struggles constantly to stop Damian from killing people. Despite this, Damian really seems to value the lives of animals. He has a dog named Titus, adopted for him by Bruce to be his companion; he also has a cow named Bat-Cow that he saved himself. He even becomes a vegetarian after he fights as Robin in a meat factory. His distaste for human lives apparently doesn’t extend to animals.
