WARNING: The following article contains spoilers from "What's in the Box?" from DC Festival of Heroes: The Asian Superhero Celebration #1 by Dustin Nguyen and Steve Wands, on sale now.

With "Infinite Frontier" setting up the new status quo of the DCU, great new challenges and discoveries are sure to be found. But many familiar and welcome faces are also reappearing. Some of these characters haven't been seen in years and one of them is sure to have been missed by Damian Wayne.

Colin Wilkes was a young boy who gained superpowers that Damian met while on patrol. The two became friends while working together, making Colin arguably Damian's first real friend, long before Jon Kent showed up. The first issue of DC Festival of Heroes: The Asian Superhero Celebration revealed that Colin has finally returned to the DCU and is just as supportive a friend as ever.

Colin Wilkes Returns

Colin Wilkes first debuted in Detective Comics #847 by Paul Dini and Dustin Nguyen. He was a ten-year-old orphan with a series of phobias and abandonment issues. Colin received therapy before being moved into several foster homes. But Colin wasn't the lucky sort and he was kidnapped by the Scarecrow, who wanted to use Colin as guinea pig for his own strain of Venom, the super steroid that grants Bane his great strength. The resulting injection had a similar effect on Colin, transforming the child's body into a full-grown, super-strength wielding adult. Fortunately, Batman managed to rescue Colin and get him medical assistance.

However, the Scarecrow's Venom was never fully removed from Colin's system. It left him with the ability to transform into his bulking adult body if he concentrated, but this time he would retain control. Colin, being a massive fan of superheroes, decided to use his gifts to protect the streets of Gotham. In the guise of a big overcoat and taking the codename "Abuse," Colin became a street-level hero fighting for those who could not fight for themselves. But Colin's career as a hero would only improve once he crossed paths with Robin.

The two began investigating the disappearances of multiple children, eventually tracing it all to Victor Zsasz, who was operating an underground child fighting ring. The two defeated Zsasz, and Damian gave Colin a motorbike that the new hero named the Cycle of Abuse. The two would remain friends until the DCU was restructured into the New 52. After that, Colin was not seen or heard from again, and his role as Damian's friend was taken over by Jon Kent.

But now Colin has finally returned. He showed up in his Abuse form before returning to his normal size to comfort Cassandra Cain when she was upset about something Damian said to her. Colin kept her company and reminded her that Damian can be an insensitive idiot sometimes, showing that he still knows his friend. This small interaction confirms that Colin is alive and well, still has his powers and, has a relationship with the Bat-Family. Hopefully Colin will get more appearances in the future as "Infinite Frontier" continues to expand.
