Last week, DC Comics announced that its iconic Justice League would be receiving a major shakeup following the events of Dark Nights: Metal.

For the four-week event miniseries, the supergroup will find itself split into four teams, each with their own separate rosters and themes, personally designed by Brainiac. Along with some surprising villains, joining these new teams will be four members of the current Teen Titans. Raven will be on Team Wonder alongside Wonder Woman and Zatanna; Starfire on Team Mystery with Superman and Starro (no, really); Beast Boy on Team Entropy with Batman and Deathstroke; and Damian Wayne's Robin on Team Wisdom with Cyborg and The Atom.

Raven and Starfire's inclusion into these new Justice League teams makes some degree of sense; Raven is the daughter of a demon, along with being a powerful sorceress, so it stands to reason she could learn (or possibly teach) a thing or two from Zatanna or Etrigan. Starfire is practically an adult herself -- her age is never given, but she's definitely the oldest of the Titans -- and the makeup of Team Mystery is composed of aliens that the public is either fully aware of, as is the case with Superman and Martian Manhunter, or have a vague idea of who they are, hence Starro and Sinestro. Of the Titans involved, the female members have an air of maturity about them that makes their ages irrelevant -- the real outliers here are Beast Boy and Robin. It begs the question, then, of why someone with a high intellect such as Brainiac would pick two teenagers -- a comic relief shapeshifter and impetuous, control freak sidekick -- to join up with other heroes in an effort to save the world.

The son of Batman has followed an interesting path to trying to be a hero like his father, from recruiting a team of his own to making nice with his new Kryptonian best friend, Superboy.  He has the benefit of having worked with the League back when he temporarily had superpowers, but he also has a tendency to grate on people real fast. Even though he's been on a team for a few years now, he still has trouble playing well with others; don't forget that he assembled his three brothers and declared that he'd beat them up and rob them just to prove himself. Despite the genuine efforts that he's made to reform, there's still clearly a darkness within him. After all, the "Super Sons of Tomorrow" crossover hinted that whatever led to an adult Jon Kent killing millions was done to stop whatever the older Damian was doing. Can the Justice League really trust someone whose future is murkier than even theirs? Through different continuities over the years, Damian's identity crisis has been constantly explored, and it usually culminates with him becoming brutal or completely evil.

And then there's Beast Boy, the Titans' resident class clown. Of all the Titans who would ever end up in the Justice League, be it the primary team or one of its many offshoots, he's the most unexpected of the bunch. In every incarnation of the character, he's never really been elevated to the big leagues like fellow Titans Cyborg or Raven. Much like his big heart and veganism, his immaturity is a defining factor of his character, and that usually means he gets written off as the expendable Titan. In the case of the Injustice universe, that's literal, as he's killed him off in the opening of the first game. Here, partnered up with heavy hitters such as Lex Luthor and the Dark Knight himself, we can't help but feel like a Beast Boy is a Red Shirt.

The two Justice League teams that Robin and Beast Boy end up in are labeled Wisdom and Entropy, respectively. Brainiac's reasoning for putting them in those particular teams may be more than just the two of them helping to represent the Titans. This can be a good opportunity for these two characters in particular to grow into themselves in ways that they haven't entirely been afforded to in the past. Joining Beast Boy on Team Entropy is Batman, Deathstroke, Lex Luthor and Lobo, all of whom have experienced disorganization and chaos during their lives and have come out the other side of it with a stronger resolve.

Chaos has hovered over Beast Boy like a specter, and he's said himself that he goofs off to forget the pain that's plagued him. Luthor and Lobo are... probably not people he should be around. Batman and Deathstroke, however, are two twisted, but deeply empathetic men who, in their own way, can help Beast Boy come to terms with those that he's lost in his life. The dynamics the two of them have with young men in their charge would allow them to easily connect with Beast Boy and help him make some sense of the tragedy that's made up a majority of his life.

Similarly, Robin can stand to learn something from his teammates over on Team Wisdom. He's hung out with both Cyborg and Flash in the past, so he'll have a level of camaraderie with them, but he could also find something of a bond with the current Atom, Ryan Choi. Like Damian, Ryan inherited a legacy under complicated circumstances, but the various conditions he's lived with as a child has forced him to see things from a smaller perspective. Damian goes big or goes home, so some quality time with Ryan could teach him that slow and steady wins the race more often than trying to rush into greatness.

And as strange as it sounds, Damian could also probably bond with Harley Quinn. Their situations aren't 100% similar, but she's become her own person since leaving the Joker in her past, and she'd have some words of wisdom for the younger Robin. Thus far, he's been the only Robin to not abandon the title because he wants to graduate from that to the next Batman. She'd be as good a person as any to show that he can step out of his dad's shadow. If there's anyone who could help him deal with his inner demons that also isn't Superboy, it would be her.

Each DC event in the Rebirth line has had major impacts on the involved characters, and it's doubtful No Justice will buck that trend. The team combinations going on here are interesting, to say the least, and with so many Titans on hand, this promotion, whether short term or permanent, will likely change them all deeply. With this being labeled as an "all hands on deck" situation, these two will need to step up big time.
