As DC prepares to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Robin, the pencils for a 1940s variant cover from veteran Batman artist, DC Co-Publisher and Chief Creative Officer Jim Lee for the upcoming Robin 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular have been released, showcasing the more joyful side of the Dark Knight.

The cover, which pays homage to Robin's first appearance in 1940's Detective Comics #38, sees the original Boy Wonder, Dick Grayson, bursting through a paper hoop held by Batman as a spotlight hits the Dynamic Duo. In a unique twist that differs from the original cover, Lee has Dick hold up the sign of the horns with his right hand, as opposed to just merely having that hand up in the air.

As for the Caped Crusader himself, Batman smiles at Robin's debut, almost as if his presence has brought some level of happiness to Batman's life.

Lee's cover had been previously announced alongside other variants, which debuted earlier this month. The covers will pay showcase the different eras of Robin and feature artwork from the likes of Frank Miller, Dustin Nguyen and Kaare Andrews.
