The Late Show host Stephen Colbert recently offered his take on the Marvel Cinematic Universe character Tony Stark/Iron Man, and it's now officially been approved by Robert Downey Jr. himself.

"Returning my face back to normal," Colbert said of an at-home segment, which at one point, showed him in a Tony Stark-esque outfit while doing an impression of the character. "We welcome our newest Avenger with open arms," Downey commented on Colbert's video. "Well, open arms but 6 feet away..."

Robert Downey Jr. first appeared as Tony Stark/Iron Man in 2008's Iron Man, which kicked off the entire MCU. He would reprise the role in many MCU films, including 2012's Avengers, 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron, 2016's Captain America: Civil War and 2018's Avengers: Infinity War. The character would ultimately meet his demise in 2019's Avengers: Endgame after using the Infinity Gauntlet to defeat Thanos and his army.

Currently, it hasn't been confirmed whether Downey will return as Tony Stark in a future MCU film, be it in a flashback or as a past version of the character. The actor has neither confirmed nor denied if he will cameo in the upcoming Black Widow solo film, which recently delayed its premiere date due to coronavirus (COVID-19).

Downey Jr. recently appeared in as John Doolittle in Universal Pictures reboot of 1967's Doctor Dolittle film. The actor is also set to appear in an upcoming sports comedy by Jamie Foxx entitled All-Star Weekend.
