Robert Ben Garant To Adapt Manga Tuxedo Gin For Disney

Robert Ben Garant, who wrote Night at the Museum with his Reno 911! collaborator Thomas Lennon, will adapt the manga Tuxedo Gin for Disney, Deadline reports.

Created by Tokihiko Matsuura, the romantic comedy centers on Ginji Kusanagi, a young boxer who, on his way to his first date with Minako Sasebo, is involved in a terrible accident, causing his spirit to be separated from his body. An angel of sorts informs Ginji that he can be reunited with his body, but only after he lives out the life of an animal. Remembering Minako’s favorite animal, he chooses to be reincarnated as a penguin that eventually escapes the zoo only to be found by the girl of his dreams.

Tuxedo Gin was serialized in Japan from April 1997 to February 2000 by Shogakukan’s Shonen Sunday, and published in North America beginning in 2003 by Viz Media. The adaptation will be produced by Principato-Young’s Paul Young and Peter Principato, Viz Media’s Jason Hoffs and Shogakukan’s Ichiro Takase.
