Though sporting a different look from her previous incarnations, Margot Robbie's "Suicide Squad" character is instantly recognizable as Harley Quinn. The new take on the iconic villain/sometimes-hero quickly won fans over, and the character's comic book incarnation recently updated her look to reflect her live-action counterpart.

In a New York Times profile of Robbie, both the actress and director David Ayer commented on Harley's updated wardrobe, explaining the hows and whys they went the makeover route for her live-action debut.

Robbie said Harley Quinn is "wearing hot pants because they're sparkly and fun" and not because "she wanted guys to look at her ass. As Margot, no, I don't like wearing that. I'm eating burgers at lunchtime, and then you go do a scene where you're hosed down and soaking wet in a white T-shirt, it's so clingy and you're self-conscious about it."

Ayer added that he "didn't think denim overalls would be appropriate for that character," saying Robbie understood "that's part of the [character's] iconography."
