Paramount Pictures has acquired the film rights to Avengelyne, the demon-fighting angel created by Rob Liefeld and Cathy Christian.

According to Deadline, Akiva Goldsman is on board to produce the feature, with the possibility of directing. Liefeld confirmed the news this afternoon on Twitter.

Apparently being pitched as "'John Wick' with a fallen angel," Avengelyne was introduced in 1995 as one of the most powerful angels in Heaven's Warhost, feared even by the demons of Hell. Convinced by the angel Micah to question God, Avengelyne was expelled from heaven to live as a mortal. Despite the harsh punishment and the loss of most of her powers, she kept her faith in God and began a quest to battle demons she found on Earth, standing between humanity and Armageddon.

Avengelyne has starred in numerous ongoing series and miniseries, most recently in 2011.

Liefeld previously announced plans to develop an Avengelyne film with Gina Carano, the MMA fighter turned action star.

A veteran film and television writer, producer and director, has a long list of credits that includes "Batman & Robin," "The Da Vinci Code," "Fringe" and "The Dark Tower." He's currently overseeing the Hasbro movies for Paramount and the writers room for the "Transformers" franchise.
