X-Force creator Rob Liefeld is returning to the series he created for a one-shot that honors the title's debut 30 years ago.

Liefeld will write and draw X-Force: Killshot, an adventure involving fan-favorite character Cable. Liefeld said, "X-Force was a huge gamble that paid off big for Marvel, paid off big for retailers and it changed my life forever. I'm thrilled and honored to share Killshot with everyone. Thirty years in the making, I intend to make every page a huge kick for fans new and old."

In the 30th anniversary special, Cable leads five X-Force strike teams pulled from time and space to go after Stryfe at his base, Asteroid S.

X-Force #1 sold more than 5 million copies in August 1991, becoming one of the biggest selling single issues Marvel Comics has ever had. The team debuted in The New Mutants #100 in April 1991, with team leader Cable and members Boom Boom, Cannonball, Domino, James Proudstar, Feral and Shatterstar. X-Force took a more aggressive approach to fighting its enemies than the X-Men. Liefeld's return to Marvel represents a change of heart; in 2019, he announced he would focus on his work with other companies.

X-Force was under consideration for a live-action adaptation, and a version of the team appeared in Deadpool 2. However, that project never got out of development, and went on hold after the Walt Disney Company absorbed 20th Century Fox studios, which then produced the X-Men films.
