Co-created by Fabian Nicieza and Liefeld, Deadpool first appeared in The New Mutants #98 in 1991. Mercenary Wade Wilson gained superhuman healing abilities and other attributes due to undergoing the same experiments that created Wolverine. The process left him with little sanity, and earned him the moniker of "The Merc With A Mouth" for his incessant verbal barrage. Deadpool has become extremely popular, portrayed by Ryan Reynolds in two live-action films and appearing in numerous comic series over the years.

Liefeld potentially drawing Deadpool for a Marvel comic is a surprise, given that he's vocally expressed his displeasure at the publisher. Much of this has stemmed from Deadpool's absence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date and Jonathan Hickman's current direction with the X-Men franchise. However, given that Marvel Studios is currently developing Deadpool 3, as well as his own attachment to the character, it seems like things may have been smoothed over between the two parties.

Liefeld is currently producing the film adaptation of Prophet, featuring the super soldier he created for Image Comics. Arrow co-creator Marc Guggenheim is penning the script for Prophet.
