Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld has indicated that Deadpool 2 will be doubling down on the humor, as he's recently compared Deadpool and Cable's relationship in the film to the buddy cop duo in Brett Ratner's Rush Hour.

In the comics, their partnership is often depicted as a buddy cop dynamic, and Liefeld believes that Josh Brolin as the time-traveling mutant Cable and Ryan Reynolds' Merc with a Mouth will deliver the comedic-action magic that Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker offered onscreen.

"[Brolin]'s such a great actor, that's where it starts, and gravitas, and who else really is going to hold their ground with Ryan as Wade/Deadpool," Liefeld told ComicBook.com. "That is energy unbridled, and so you've gotta hold your ground. When I see the two of them I'm like 'It's going to be comic book's equivalent of Rush Hour,' and I don't know if comic fans are ready for it. I think it's going to be great."

He called Brolin's casting "inspired" and believes that the physicality be brings to the role makes him the ideal partner for Wade Wilson. Liefeld referenced No Country For Old Men and Sicario in terms of Brolin being a "tremendous actor."

Once again starring Ryan Reynolds, T.J. Miller, Brianna Hildebrand and Karan Soni, along with newcomers Zazie Beetz as Domino and Josh Brolin as Cable, Deadpool 2 is set to hit theaters on June 1, 2018.
