Cable made his cinematic debut in Deadpool 2, brought to life by actor Josh Brolin. While there were reports that Deadpool 3 and a self-contained Cable film were being discussed, the future of those projects are currently uncertain. Character co-creator Rob Liefeld -- who had earlier claimed that Marvel has no plans the former film -- believes that Cable can headline his own movie franchise without Deadpool.

While speaking to Collider, Liefeld explained his view, citing the comics he counted that featured Cable. "Cable should have his own movie series," Liefeld said, "He can exist independent of Deadpool in a heartbeat. He has for years. If Deadpool's been in like 330 comics, Cable's been in about 520. Yes, I've counted."

Liefeld then delved into Brolin's apparent desire for the sequels examining Cable, adding, "In between Deadpool 2 wrapping and opening, I got really close with Josh. And he was very excited about exploring Cable in the subsequent sequels. The X-Force standalone movie that was, in his own words, Cable-centric."

However, Disney and Marvel don't plan to use the X-Men "for a very long time," according to Marvel Studios President and Marvel Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige. As for the aforementioned Deadpool 3, leading man Ryan Reynolds previously stated that the movie is being developed at Marvel, although there is currently no information regarding a release date for it nor a start date for production.

Directed by David Leitch, Deadpool 2 stars Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson/Deadpool, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, T.J. Miller as Weasel, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Stefan Kapičić as Colossus, Zazie Beetz as Domino, Julian Dennison as Russell and Josh Brolin as Cable.
