Josie McCoy is leaving Riverdale in order to star in the spinoff series Katy Keene, which was given a full series order by The CW.According to an official description of the series, "Katy Keene follows the lives and loves of four iconic Archie Comics characters — including fashion legend-to-be Katy Keene [played by Hale] and singer/songwriter Josie McCoy — as they chase their twenty-something dreams in New York City."

While the news is exciting, it comes with one downside. Ashleigh Murray, the actor who plays Riverdale pop sensation Josie McCoy, will be leaving the series as a regular to star in Katy Keene. The door is open for her to return to Riverdale, but following the events of Season 3, it seems as if a reunion with Archie and friends is increasingly unlikely.

Katy Keene is just one of several projects given a series order by The CW. Also given a series order for the 2019-2020 season are Nancy Drew (an adaption of the classic novels), Batwoman (an Arrow spinoff) and The Lost Boys (a series adaptation of the classic 1980s vampire film).
