Shannen Doherty will make an appearance in the Season 4 premiere of The CW's Riverdale, partially in honor of her fallen 90210 costar Luke Perry, whom the episode will be dedicated to. However, series executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has teased that her role might be bigger than originally thought.

In an interview with TVLine, Aguirre-Sacasa stopped short of revealing just how Doherty's character will be connected to the show's universe or even to Perry's character, Fred, but he did confirm she would have scenes with the teenage characters that would bring about "a powerful moment of catharsis." He also added how touched he was by Doherty's performance. "Shannen is wonderful in [the episode.] The role would not nearly have the resonance it does if not for Shannen."

With the episode dedicated to Perry, a few more details have been given: it will be a standalone episode and won't have the typical recap, serving as sort of a "breather" chapter.

Returning to The CW on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 8 p.m. EST, Riverdale stars KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, Madelaine Petsch, Casey Cott, Mark Consuelos, Skeet Ulrich, Marisol Nichols and Madchen Amick.
