With The CW's Archie Comics-based drama Riverdale set to return for Season 5 on Jan. 20, the network has released a set of official stills from Season 5's second episode, titled "Chapter Seventy-Eight: The Preppy Murders."
Set to air on The CW on Wednesday, Jan. 27, "The Preppy Murders" promises a "game changer" as Betty Cooper and Jughead Jones' investigation into the auteur takes a "twisted turn" following an unexpected phone call. Meanwhile, main protagonist Archie Andrews finds himself having to make an "impossible decision" when the person responsible for his father's death needs his help. At the same time, Veronica Lodge and her half-sister Hermosa attempt to force their father, Hiram, into retirement, all while while Cheryl Blossom puts a business plan of her own into motion. The CW's photos also show what appears to be a frank discussion between Jughead and his dad, F.P. Jones.

GAME CHANGER -- Betty (Lili Reinhart) and Jughead's (Cole Sprouse) investigation into the auteur takes a twisted turn after receiving a call from Bret (guest star Sean Depner). Meanwhile, Archie (KJ Apa) is forced to make an impossible decision when the person responsible for his father's death needs his help. Elsewhere, Veronica (Camila Mendes) and Hermosa (guest star Mishel Prada) come up with a plan to force Hiram (Mark Consuelos) into early retirement, and Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) makes a business move. Mädchen Amick and Vanessa Morgan also star. Gabriel Correa directed the episode written by Janine Salinas Schoenberg & Devon Turner (#502). Original airdate 1/27/2021.
With Season 4 having concluded back in May, Riverdale is set to return for its fifth season next week on Wednesday, Jan. 20 with "Chapter Seventy-Seven: Climax" -- which will feature an appearance by KO Kelly, who previously appeared on the Riverdale spinoff series Katy Keene. "The Preppy Murders" will follow suit one week later.
