Riverdale has revealed an official promo for its Season 5 finale, "Chapter Ninety-Five: Riverdale: RIP(?)," which is slated to air on The CW in one week's time on Oct. 6.

The threat of death looms large in the trailer, which opens with Pop's Chock'lit Shoppe burning in the night. This evidently puts Riverdale's leads on a quest for justice, with Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) declaring, "Something drastic needs to happen." We then see the likes of Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart), Reggie Mantle (Charles Melton), Alice Smith (Mädchen Amick) and Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) take up arms -- seemingly against Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos).

The trailer also teases some major romantic moments between Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) and Betty, Veronica and Reggie and possibly even Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) and Toni Topaz (Vanessa Morgan). That said, the promo ends on a rather grim note indeed, with Cheryl apparently being burned at the stake in a manner akin to Joan of Arc.

Riverdale's fifth season premiered this past January. Season 5 brought with it a major status quo shift, with Archie and the gang leaving high school behind and entering the world of adulthood. The season went on what would prove to be an extended hiatus following the debut of its 10th episode, which aired on March 31. Riverdale Season 5 finally returned to The CW on Aug. 11. Back in February, The CW renewed the Archie Comics-based drama series for a sixth season. Riverdale Season 6 is scheduled to premiere on the network on Nov. 16 and will kick off with a five-episode event, the details of which remain a mystery.
