Season 2 of Riverdale ended with a shocking cliffhanger when Archie Andrews was arrested in front of his entire school for a crime he hadn't committed. The frame job came courtesy of Hiram Lodge, who was last seen relishing his latest scheme to get Archie out of his way for good. Last we saw Archie, he was in handcuffs, being dramatically escorted by policemen.

Since there were no other witnesses to the murder Archie took the fall for, the young protagonist is undoubtedly on his way to jail. Now, Season 3 or Riverdale is just starting production, and already it looks like prison will have quite an effect on the series' lead. To signal the start of production, the Riverdale showrunner, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, shared a picture on his Instagram page of actor KJ Apa prepping for the role at the gym.

Apa's natural brown hair are back to red, and the actor is back in prime "fighting shape," signaling that his character will go through some hardened changes while in prison. The tattoos seen on the picture are Apa's own, but there's no telling if the series will cover them up in Season 3. After all, perhaps Archie will get some tattoos while incarcerated.

There isn't much we know about the direction of Riverdale's upcoming season, but it's a safe bet that Archie's time in prison will be a main focus once the series returns this fall.
