SPOILER WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Riverdale Season 1

When Season 1 of Riverdale came to a close, it was accompanied by a cliffhanger ending that saw Luke Perry's Fred Andrews being shot in Pop's Chocklit Shoppe. Now, we have our first look at the fate of Archie's father thanks to footage from the upcoming second season of the hit CW show.

While it doesn't appear that Fred's injuries are fatal, his shooting does seem to set up an even greater mystery for Season 2 -- one that Pop says may signal that "the angel of death has come to Riverdale."

Back in May, Jughead Jones actor Cole Sprouse teased Season 2's more ominous tone, stating, "I think the whole show is going to be getting darker and stranger. We’re going to be leaning into a lot of those qualities that a lot of people ended up loving in the first couple of episodes — this heavy cinematography, this overbearing coloration, this really dark content that’s kind of over-the-top and campy, but it’s taken very seriously.”
