Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa gave fans a creepy look inside Season 5's surprises.

"Nothing stays buried forever... #Riverdale Season Five coming soon," Aguirre-Sacasa captioned the poster reveal on Twitter.

The poster seen above shows a hand crawling up out of a grave deep in the heart of a dark, wooded area. Although no face is visible in the photo, Aguirre-Sacasa's post heavily suggests that someone already presumed dead is returning. However, Aguirre-Sacasa also teased earlier in September that perhaps Archie will be the one to perish... Maybe he returns too?

Riverdale's Season 5 will pick up from where the truncated Season 4 left the series. Originally, Season 4 was supposed to run for 22 episodes, but due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, its production was halted, resulting in only 19 aired episodes. Initially, the first couple of episodes will focus on the stories left untold from the prior season -- primarily who was behind the videotape murders. Then, the series will time-jump with its main cast, showing them in their 20s.

Actor Erinn Westbrook will be joining Riverdale as Tabitha Tate, the granddaughter of Terry "Pop" Tate (Alvin Sanders). She strives to turn her grandfather's diner into a franchise and will inevitably become wrapped up in the mysteries and murder the town has to offer.

The official synopsis for Sesaon 5 is below.

Season five of RIVERDALE will begin with our characters’ final days as students at Riverdale High. From an epic Senior Prom to a bittersweet Graduation, there are a lot of emotional moments and goodbyes yet to come—with some couples breaking up, as everyone goes their separate ways to college—or elsewhere. Then, we will redock with our gang as young adults, all returning to Riverdale to escape their troubled pasts. And life—and romance—will only be more complicated now that they’re in their twenties…

Riverdale stars K.J. Apa as Archie Andrews, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge, Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones, Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl Blossom, Casey Cott as Kevin Keller, Mark Consuelos as Hiram Lodge, Charles Melton as Reggie Mantle, Vanessa Morgan as Toni Topaz, Mädchen Amick as Alice Cooper and Erinn Westbrook as Tabitha Tate. The series returns for Season 5 on Jan. 20 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
