Ross Bulter is an actor in demand. Not only has he brought Archie's nemesis Reggie Mantle to life on The CW's "Riverdale," he also plays a pivotal role on Netflix's teen suicide drama "13 Reasons Why." Now, according to TVLine, Butler's commitments on "13 Reasons Why" will interfere with plans for him to return in "Riverdale" Season 2. With Reggie slated to return for Season 2, Butler will have to be recast.

According to "Riverdale's" executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, "We want more Reggie on our show -- he’s Archie’s rival! -- and because Ross is unavailable to come back to 'Riverdale,' we’re looking for a new Reggie. Those are big shoes to fill, but we’re confident we can find an actor who is as funny and sexy as Ross. And of course we all wish Ross the best."

Butler's departure from "Riverdale" shouldn't come as much of a surprise. During a set visit in November, Jughead actor Cole Sprouse addressed Butler's busy schedule, saying, "So, Reggie Mantle right now has been a kind of complicated character to pursue, in my opinion. He is played by basically our favorite guy, Ross Butler, but Ross is a talented working talented actor on another show, so we don't want to sacrifice him playing that character and it's kind of been a juggle between when he's available to come onto the set to play Reggie and when he's not. While it will be sad to see Butler leave the show, it's a smart move to recast him because Reggie is such an integral part of "Archie Comics." He is Riverdale's town bully, albeit a lovable bully who is always at odds with Archie or Jughead. Reggie currently appears in Mark Waid's "Archie" comic book series and his own series "Reggie and Me."

Airing on the CW network weekly on Thursdays at 9 p.m., “Riverdale” is a modern take on the Archie Comics universe starring K.J. Apa as Archie Andrews, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge, Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones, Marisol Nichols as Hermione Lodge, Luke Perry as Fred Andrews, Casey Cott as Kevin Keller and Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl Blossom.
