The latest episode of The CW's Riverdale, titled "Chapter Forty-Nine: Fire Walk with Me," has become the first to air following the sudden death of series star Luke Perry earlier this week. As such, it is also the first episode to follow through on series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's promise that all future chapters of the Archie Comics-based series will be dedicated to Perry.

As the episode drew to a close, a customary cliffhanger took place on screen before the fade to black. What followed was a tribute dedicated to the late actor, which simply read, "In Memoriam. Luke Perry. 1966-2019."

Perry was perhaps best known for playing Dylan McKay on the hit series Beverly Hills, 90210, a role that earned him massive recognition in the 1990s. However, thanks to Riverdale, he was able to show off his talents to a whole new generation of teen drama fans. Since the show's debut in early 2017, Perry has played the character of Fred Andrews, father of series protagonist Archie Andrews (played by KJ Apa).

Fred appeared only briefly in "Chapter Forty-Nine: Fire Walk with Me." Even so, the episode delivered on another one of Aguirre-Sacasa's promises, in which he explained that the episode would feature the character "doing what he does best -- helping Archie."

According to Riverdale's cast and crew, Perry was both one of the best co-stars and one of the best friends anyone could ask for, a sentiment echoed by the late actor's many friends, family members and colleagues. Also, Perry's impact on those around him was so profound that production on Riverdale has been temporarily suspended to allow the cast and crew time to grieve.

Perry tragically passed away on March 4 after suffering a "massive" stroke several days earlier, from which he ultimately did not recover. The actor was 52.

Airing Wednesdays at 8 pm ET/PT on The CW, Riverdale stars KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, Madelaine Petsch, Ashleigh Miller, Casey Cott, Mark Consuelos, Skeet Ulrich, Marisol Nichols, Madchen Amick and Luke Perry.
