"Riverdale" has just elected its mayor. Deadline reports that Robin Givens has joined the CW series in the recurring role of Mayor Sierra McCoy, who is "not only the powerful and fabulous Mayor of Riverdale, but also the mother of soon-to-be-world-famous Josie of Josie & The Pussycats fame."

The report describes the character as "chic and driven, Mayor McCoy is struggling to guide Riverdale through the crisis precipitated by the mysterious death of Jason Blossom, all while making sure the town’s upcoming 75th Jubilee Celebration goes off without a hitch." She will make her debut in the series' second episode.

Givens starred opposite Eddie Murphy in 1992's "Boomerang" (pictured above) and has appeared in both "Head of the Class" and "Head of State." Her past credits also include "90210," "Chuck," "House of Payne," "My Parents, My Sister, & Me" and much, much more.

Executive produced by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Greg Berlanti, “Riverdale” stars K.J. Apa, Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, Lili Reinhart, Madelaine Petsch, Ashleigh Murray, Luke Perry, Mädchen Amick, Marisol Nichols, Ross Butler, Cody Kearsley, Casey Cott and more. The series premieres at midseason on The CW.
